Natural resource studies at watershed or landscape scales are an important element of ecosystem management on U.S. Forest Service and BLM lands in the Pacific Northwest. Private stakeholders also are organizing natural resource assessments through watershed councils. PWRI uses a geographic information systems (GIS) approach to reveal patterns of wildlife distribution, vegetation trends, and human land use.
